What Are Case Studies?

Case studies are detailed stories that show how a real problem was solved. Each one explains the challenge, the action taken, and the result. As Yale School of Management explains, a case study is a snapshot of an organisation or industry wrestling with a dilemma. That is why case studies are useful. They help you see how thinking, decisions, and delivery played out in the real world.

By sharing these stories, we want to help you see how our approach could apply to your own situation. We believe people come before technology, so each case study shows how practical decisions, clear communication, and good leadership shaped the outcome.

Featured Case Studies

Below are four examples that show the range of work we do. Each includes a short overview of the problem, our solution, and the result.

400% Database Speed Improvement

Problem. A client’s product was being slowed down by poor database performance. Users were waiting too long for information, and the system was becoming harder to scale.

Solution. We reviewed the product codebase and analysed how the application accessed the database. The work focused on identifying slow queries, reducing unnecessary database calls and improving the way information was retrieved.

Result. Database access improved by around 400%. The product felt faster, users experienced less friction and the client gained more confidence in the platform’s ability to support future growth.

Protecting NHS Medical Records During a High-Profile Trial

Problem. During the UK “house of horror” trial involving the Rose children, sensitive NHS medical records needed stronger protection. The information had to remain available to authorised staff while being restricted from wider internal access.

Solution. We helped secure the relevant NHS medical records by applying strict access controls and limiting visibility to authorised personnel only. The work required care, discretion and a clear understanding of the seriousness of clinical privacy, legal sensitivity and public scrutiny.

Result. The records remained protected during a highly sensitive period. Authorised staff could still do their work, while unnecessary access was prevented. This demonstrated trusted handling of confidential healthcare information under serious pressure.

Ministry of Defence Audit Support at British Aerospace

Problem. British Aerospace needed to support MoD (Ministry of Defence) audit activity where accuracy, process discipline and evidence mattered. The work required careful preparation, clear documentation and confidence when dealing with formal review requirements.

Solution. We took part in MoD audit work, helping review systems, processes and supporting evidence. The focus was on making sure information was organised, risks were understood and audit questions could be answered clearly.

Result. The audit work was supported with structured evidence and calm technical input. This demonstrated experience in regulated, high-trust environments where governance, accuracy and accountability are essential.

SaaS Product and SOW Review

Problem. A client had a promising SaaS product idea and a proposed SOW (Statement of Work) from external software developers. The concept had potential, but the scope, assumptions, roadmap and delivery risk needed an independent review before money was committed.

Solution. We reviewed the SaaS product idea, assessed the proposed Statement of Work and challenged assumptions around feasibility, scope, sequencing, budget and delivery planning. We then helped the client shape a more practical product roadmap.

Result. The client gained a clearer view of what should be built first, what should be deferred and where the proposed development plan needed refinement. This reduced delivery risk before the project moved further.

MYOB to Microsoft Dynamics Business Central Migration

Problem. A business needed to move from MYOB to Microsoft Dynamics Business Central while also supporting an ecommerce system operating across nine currencies. The migration had to protect financial accuracy and avoid disruption to sales, reporting and day-to-day operations.

Solution. We project managed the move from MYOB to Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, coordinating finance, ecommerce, data migration and stakeholder communication. The work included planning the transition, managing risks, checking currency requirements and keeping the project focused on business continuity.

Result. The client moved to a stronger business management platform with better support for ecommerce, multi-currency operations and future growth. The project gave the business a more scalable financial foundation and clearer operational reporting.

Cloud Migration with Terraform and a Recovery Plan

Problem. The client’s platform ran across a mix of on-premise and cloud infrastructure. Manual deployments felt risky, recovery was unclear and spending lacked visibility.

Solution. We planned a staged migration and used Terraform so environments could be rebuilt consistently. We also added recovery objectives, regular drills, monitoring, alerting and cost dashboards.

Result. Deployments became more repeatable, recovery became a tested process instead of guesswork and cost surprises became easier to spot and manage.

Microsoft 365 Backup on AWS with Veeam

Problem. A client using Microsoft 365 needed stronger backup protection for email and business data. The business wanted more control than relying on platform retention alone, especially for accidental deletion, compliance requests and recovery scenarios.

Solution. We implemented a Veeam backup solution for Microsoft 365, with backups stored on AWS. The work included planning the backup approach, configuring storage, validating recovery options and making sure the setup matched the client’s risk and retention needs.

Result. The client gained independent Microsoft 365 backup protection with clearer recovery options. This reduced risk, improved confidence and gave the business better control over critical communication and collaboration data.

Implementing Jira for Nine Projects and Five Teams

Problem. A large software company was juggling nine interconnected legacy projects across five teams. Tasks were scattered across spreadsheets and email, which created poor visibility and misaligned priorities.

Solution. We introduced Jira as a shared project management hub with separate boards for each team, a common workflow and clearer naming conventions. The setup helped teams see priorities, track progress and manage dependencies in one place.

Result. Work became more visible, dependencies were identified earlier and coordination overhead dropped as teams started working from the same source of truth.

PCI Compliance for a Buy Now Pay Later FinTech

Problem. A Buy Now Pay Later FinTech needed to improve its payment security controls and prepare for PCI compliance. The team had strong product knowledge, but needed clearer evidence, stronger governance and a more structured approach to managing payment data risk.

Solution. We reviewed the payment environment, clarified how payment data was handled and identified areas that needed stronger control. We helped improve documentation, organise evidence and support the team through the compliance preparation process.

Result. The business gained a clearer compliance position, stronger internal controls and greater confidence when dealing with partners, assessors and stakeholders. This helped reduce uncertainty and gave the team a more disciplined approach to payment security.

Zendesk and ITIL for Better Tech Support

Problem. A mid-sized company was struggling with a high volume of IT requests. Manual processes and limited self-service created bottlenecks and made triage, reporting and improvement difficult.

Solution. We introduced an ITIL-aligned help desk built on Zendesk, with structured ticketing, self-service, knowledge base support and better reporting. The work gave the team clearer processes, better visibility and a stronger service management foundation.

Result. Resolution times improved, job satisfaction increased and service quality became easier to measure and improve over time.

Common Challenges We Solve

Across these projects, we see recurring challenges, especially for non-technical founders and growing teams:

  • Outdated systems. We modernise platforms to improve reliability and reduce friction.
  • Poor communication. We introduce practical delivery rhythms and collaboration tools.
  • Lack of leadership support. We mentor leaders and help teams build stronger habits.
  • Compliance uncertainty. We improve governance and support audit and certification readiness.
  • Integration headaches. We connect systems so data and workflows move more smoothly.
  • Risk exposure. We assess risks and recommend clear protections.
  • Resource constraints. We provide scalable support that fits real budgets and timelines.
  • Resistance to change. We guide adoption through training, communication, and phased rollouts.
  • Slow performance. We optimise code, hosting, and infrastructure.
  • Unclear strategy. We build practical IT strategies aligned with business goals.
